What are my rights during a probationary period?

As a probationary employee, you enjoy many of the rights conferred upon employees with permanent status. As appropriate based on individual circumstances, you have the right to:
- Accrue and use annual leave, sick leave, and compensatory leave
- Enroll in various insurances
- Apply for vacant positions within your current department, center, or unit
- Participate in staff development programs offered by University Personnel Services
- Consult with the Employee Assistance Program
Other benefits, as appropriate, include:
- Paid administrative leave
- Salary payment at least at the minimum of the pay range assigned to your position
- Paid holidays
- Tuition fee waiver
- Nomination for awards and bonuses
- Special pay increases
In addition, as a probationary employee, you are covered by workers’ compensation and the Family and Medical Leave Act.
