I have been denied on-campus housing. How do I find off-campus housing?

The UF Division of Housing does not maintain off-campus housing. Several local organizations exist to assist with helping student find housing in local apartment complexes and rental homes. However, the UF Division of Housing maintains a “Living Around Gainesville” website with information on contacting non-UF housing providers.

How long am I obligated to live and pay for housing?

There are contracts available for the following periods: Fall/Spring (academic year), Spring only, Summer A, Summer B, and Summer C (Summer A + B). The agreement you sign will clearly indicate the contract period on the agreement.

How do I request a roommate?

Roommate preference is indicated when you complete the Residence Hall Agreement, the housing contract sent to you after you have been accepted to UF as a student, and submitted a housing application and $25 non-refundable housing application fee.

Roommate preference must be mutual, meaning the person you choose as a roommate must choose you as a roommate preference as well.

Room assignments are made by priority to those who complete their application and contract first. For roommates, room assignment priority will be based upon the contract received date from the last roommate to send their contract. Roommate assignment will also depend upon space availability.

Am I allowed to select or upgrade to a more expensive residence hall if I am willing to pay the difference not covered by the Florida Prepaid College Program?

The answer to this can be located in the housing document “Residence Hall Living Part One: Residence Hall Agreement”.

Briefly, prepaid students must identify themselves as such on the UF housing application. Those with a housing option may indicate an assignment preference to any residence hall on the housing application. Assignments to halls other than those paid in full by the FL. Prepaid College Program may result in additional rent charges to students.

Air conditioned, double rooms in the following residence halls are paid in full by the FL Prepaid College Program:

Trusler
Reid
Mallory
Rawlings
Broward
Jennings
East (Honors Program)
Riker (Honors Program)
Weaver (Honors Program)
