Roommate preference is indicated when you complete the Residence Hall Contract. Information about how to complete the contract is sent after you have been accepted to UF as a student, and completed a housing application, which includes a $25 non-refundable housing application fee.

Roommate preference must be mutual, meaning the person you choose as a roommate must choose you as a roommate preference as well.

Room assignment preferences are made in housing application date order for those who complete their housing application first and also complete their housing contract by their due date. For roommates, room assignment priority will be based upon the housing application date of the roommate with the latest housing application date. Roommate assignment will also depend upon space availability.

Facilities and student activities are two elements that determine residence life quality. Another element is independent resident choice and participation.

A variety of residence halls are maintained at UF with differences in facilities, room styles, location, building history, activities, student demographics and more. Basic information can be accessed to rank residence halls according to your standards by visiting http://www.housing.ufl.edu/housing/resfac_main.html and clicking the hyperlink for “Single-student Housing” or “Graduate & Family Housing”, whichever most-closely relates to you.
