I have been denied on-campus housing. How do I find off-campus housing?

The UF Department of Housing and Residence Education does not maintain information about off-campus housing. Several local organizations exist to assist with helping student find housing in local apartment complexes and rental homes. However, the Office of Off-Campus Life provides information for students living off campus.

How long am I obligated to live and pay for housing?

There are contracts available for the following periods: Fall/Spring (academic year), Spring only, Summer A, Summer B, and Summer C (Summer A + B). The contract you sign will clearly indicate the contract period.

How do I request a roommate?

Roommate preference is indicated when you complete the Residence Hall Contract. Information about how to complete the contract is sent after you have been accepted to UF as a student, and completed a housing application, which includes a $25 non-refundable housing application fee.

Roommate preference must be mutual, meaning the person you choose as a roommate must choose you as a roommate preference as well.

Room assignment preferences are made in housing application date order for those who complete their housing application first and also complete their housing contract by their due date. For roommates, room assignment priority will be based upon the housing application date of the roommate with the latest housing application date. Roommate assignment will also depend upon space availability.

Am I allowed to select or upgrade to a more expensive residence hall if I am willing to pay the difference not covered by the Florida Prepaid College Program?

Briefly, yes, when completing the housing contract students enrolled in the Florida Prepaid College Program Housing Plan must identify themselves. Students may indicate an assignment preference to any residence hall. Assignments to rooms that are more expensive than traditional-style double rooms will result in additional rent charges to the student. Please review the website provided above for more information.
