Why do I have two NERDC passwords but only one userid?

NERDC has two major systems available to our users; NERMVS, and NERSP. When you get a NERDC account (and userid), you have access to both of these systems. However, these two systems do not share a common userid/password database; consequently, changing your password on one system does not change it on the other. If you want your password to be the same on both systems, you have to change it on both systems, separately.

NERMVS includes NERTSO, NERCICS, UF Admin. Applications, and the NERDC Dial-Up servers; all these services use the NERMVS password database. Changing your NERMVS password changes it for all of these services, but not for NERSP. NERSP (the NERDC AIX/UNIX service) uses its own, separate password database. Changing your NERSP password has no effect on your NERMVS password.

For more information about NERDC passwords and how to change them, go to http://docweb.nerdc.ufl.edu and type D0005 in the NERDC DOCID= box. Click on Get It! If you have additional questions, please contact us at the NERDC Support Desk at (352)392-2061, SUNCOM 622-2061.
