Freshman applicants have two choices as to when to begin at UF. The admissions office recommends you apply according to the term you would most like to attend.

UF offers a freshman Summer session as well as the traditional Fall term. The summer session typically starts the first week of July. This is a six-week session in which students usually take two courses. After the completion of this Summer term, students return home for two weeks before returning for the Fall semester. Summer is an excellent time for new freshmen to become acquainted with the campus.

Freshmen also have the option of beginning in the traditional Fall session. This session usually begins in late August.

Students must choose only one session on the application. There are a limited number of spaces available for each session. Please indicate your first choice on your application. Admissions decisions for both terms are made according to the competitiveness of the applicant.

Refer to the Office of Admissions for more information on when to apply.

Please note that the University of Florida considers classroom performance an excellent indicator of college coursework success, and therefore places more emphasis on grades and the challenge of the high school curriculum (including the senior-year schedule).
It is important for the applicant to know that many factors are considered in the admissions process. While some applicants will be admitted to UF based primarily on their academic background, the majority will have a thorough review of academic and non-academic information. Freshman applicants are required to submit essays, personal profiles and extracurricular achievement listings.

It is very difficult to predict the admissibility of any applicant without considering all the information contained in the application file along with the size and strength of the applicant pool.
